We recommend the following procedure: If you use an Android smartphone, first check in the vehicle menu whether the [accessory mode] is activated under [ConnectedDrive] [BMW Apps] [connection assistant]. We also recommend unplugging and replugging the smartphone, terminating and restarting the BMW Connected App. In rare cases, a restart of the smartphone can also help. For Apple smartphones, restart by holding down the Home and Standby buttons simultaneously for at least ten seconds until the Apple logo appears. For Android smartphones, press the "Standby" key for a few seconds and select the option "Power off" followed by a restart.
If no Wi-Fi is available, the app uses mobile data for some features. In particular, when using the map on the "Destinations" tab, mobile data could be used to download additional map levels and information. However, if possible, the map is buffered in order to reduce the amount of mobile data consumed.
The data volume of a BMW Remote Software Upgrade is up to 1.0 GB. The memory space of your smartphone is only needed until the data transfer into your vehicle and is automatically deleted from the smartphone after uploading to the vehicle.
