The Digital Key can be installed on your compatible smartphone. The smartphone then adapts the car key's functions. After unlocking the door and entering the vehicle the motor can be started by pressing the start button, provided the smartphone is placed in the front tray. It is possible to activate several Digital Keys on your smartphone in order to unlock and start more than one BMW. To share the Digital Key with friends and family the service "Digital key for5" must be purchased in the BMW ConnectedDrive Store.

You can see the power consumption in the charging history of the BMW Digital Charging Service. Without using a BMW i Wallbox Connect, the BMW Digital Charging Service calculates power consumption less accurately from the status information of your BMW i or BMW i Performance Vehicle.

If other road users need help quickly, you can actively trigger the manual emergency call yourself. The voice connection transmits the current GPS position data from your vehicle to the BMW ConnectedDrive emergency call centre. The automatic emergency call transmits the exact GPS position data and driving direction of your BMW. In addition, the Vehicle Identification Number and the colour of your BMW are sent to the BMW ConnectedDrive emergency call centre. Since September 2008, your BMW has been sending additional information such as the activation of the airbags, the impact side, the number of occupants and, depending on the model, any rollover. This information can be used to quickly provide targeted assistance.

The following data that may be transmitted is not available: Data transmitted anonymously from the vehicle to the BMW server as part of the ConnectedDrive service (e.g. data for RTTI), technical parameters for internal quality assurance (e.g. Diag codes), internal technical parameters for problem analyses in the event of customer complaints and data classified as non-public, protected intellectual property of the BMW Group.

It is your decision whether to select the detour recommendation made by RTTI and it is accepted manually. In order to do so, go to "Navigation" select "Map". Under the menu point "Traffic Information", "Detour" all recommended detours can be seen. By activating "Dynamic Route Guidance" all detour suggestions are automatically accepted. The symbol "Detour" will be displayed in grey if no detour suggestions is available or if no route guidance is not activated.

The "Activity" tab displays a list of your upcoming trips. These include trips you have entered manually, trips shared by other apps, trips taken from your calendar (if calendar access is enabled on the "Settings" page), and predicted trips. Trips that you have saved for later will also appear in the "Activity" tab.

At the end of the runtime, you can still use your authorized keys (Digital Keys) of the BMW ConnectedDrive Service Digital Key for a few more days. A 14-day emergency mode will then activate. During this period, you can activate an emergency extension to open and start the vehicle with your authorized keys (Digital Keys) for a further three days. You will be notified by warnings before and after the BMW ConnectedDrive Service Digital Key expires.
